Paris, France – RenaultSport has spiced up the cheeky little Twingo citycar to create an inner-city hooligan tool with looks to match.
The standard mid-mounted 898cc turbopetrol three has been tweaked with a revised air intake system and modified engine mapping to boost its output from 66kW and 135Nm to 81kW and 170Nm – which, on a car that weighs a whole 943kg ready to go, is not to be sniffed at.
The ratios in the five-speed manual ‘box have been shortened for improved acceleration and a free-revving top end, while the suspension has been lowered and revised, with special ESP calibration and variable-rate steering, to make this rear-wheel drive supermini even more agile.
Add to that 17 inch rims, lateral air intakes, dual tailpipes, NACA-style graphics and a signature metallic orange paint job, orange trim details, alloy pedals and gear lever knob, and RenaultSport-embossed door sills, and you have one distinctive little hatchling.
For those who wish to be a little more discreet, it will also be available in metallic grey, balck and white, when it goes on sale in Europe in the last quarter of 2016. Sadly, there are no plans at present to release the Twingo GT in South Africa.
